Australian artist Victoria Reichelt is highly recognized for her realistic paintings of subjects such as antique film equipment, books and magazines, and public libraries. In some of her oil paintings, especially those of libraries, one can catch a wandering deer between library aisles.

Mary McCartney

Photography Appreciation

Mary McCartney is a portrait and fashion photographer and daughter of Paul McCartney of the Beatles and photographer Linda Eastman McCartney.

Darkman (1990)

Film Appreciation

Directed by Sam Raimi, Darkman starred Liam Neeson as Peyton Westlake, a scientist left for dead in his laboratory. Severely burned, Westlake creates synthetic skin to take on new identities and fight crime.

The movie was released on August 24, 1990.

Zoey Frank

Art Appreciation

I came across Zoey Frank through Artodyssey, an art blog. What caught my attention was a painting of a beautiful woman's back titled Camellia. The light used shows detail and precision of the female form.

Michael Van Zeyl

While surfing art blogs, I came across a painting of a nude girl cupping with her hands levitating peonies. The painting, which is titled Peonista II, is by American artist Michael Van Zeyl. He is best known for his use of light and color in his realistic paintings that are romantic and nostalgic.

Andres Serrano

Photography Appreciation

Andres Serrano is an American contemporary photographer and artist known for his avant-garde photos of people, corpses and objects. One of his most notable works, which ignited protest from fundamentalists, is of a crucifix submerged in urine.

Film Appreciation

If you grew up in the 90s, then you probably remember watching Flatliners. The film was directed by Joel Schumacher and starred Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland.

The movie, which opened on August 10, 1990, is about medical students experimenting with death to find what lies beyond.

Based on an urban legend of an alleged military experiment where a U.S. Naval ship completely disappears from radar in 1943, the science fiction film, by Stewart Raffill, was released in U.S. movie theaters on August 3, 1984.

Aaron Coberly

I came across a painting titled "Anna Wedding Dress" of a young petite girl in a wedding dress sitting up on a black leather chair. Her expression is of eagerness as she looks wide-eyed to someone outside the frame. The painting is by American figurative artist Aaron Coberly.
