Johannes Wessmark

Art Appreciation

Recently, I came across an image of what appeared to be a photograph of rocks in a stream (Maid Bay). I then learned that the image was not a photograph but a painting done by Swedish artist, Johannes Wessmark.

Born in 1962, Wessmark's painting techniques include watercolors, color pencil, oil, and gouache, a method similar to watercolor but with an additive that makes it opaque.

You can see more of his wonderful paintings HERE.

Seidai Tamura

Art Appreciation

Seidai Tamura is a realist artist known for his portraits of female nudes. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Tamura was influenced, at a young age, by Manga comics. After graduating college and attending private workshops, he decided to become a fine artist.

As stated in a recent interview, Tamura invests the majority of his time on the drawing process before painting. This is evident in the detail of his paintings.

Perhaps one of my favorite of his paintings is The Three Graces, where three naked women, who look identical to each other, are bathing in a stream. The detail he dedicates to each girl is wonderful.

You can see more of his work HERE.

Matt Doust

UPDATE

Art Appreciation

There's realistic and then there's hyperrealistic. Hyperrealistic is art that resembles high definition photography.

I came across Matt Doust's work while searching hyperrealistic artists. Doust was born in the U.S., but grew up in Perth, Australia. He was known for his large oil portraits of beautiful melancholy faces.

He passed away after an apparent seizure at the age of 29.

You can see more of this young and extremely talented artist HERE.

Natalie Imbruglia - Torn

Music Appreciation

If you're around age, you probably remember catching a music video on MTV or VH1 of an attractive girl wearing a Chinese dragon t-shirt and sweater singing in her apartment about her relationship that is drifting apart. The song was Torn, and it was performed by singer-songwriter Natalie Imbruglia. It was her first released single from her her debut album Left in the Middle.

Originally written by Ednaswap, an alternative rock back from L.A., the version sung by Imbruglia sold more than 4 million copies worldwide, according to everyHit.com, and won her international recognition with and MTV Video Music Award, MTV Europe Music Award, ARIA Music Award, and a Billboard Music Award.

The song still gives me butterflies in the stomach, when I listen to the song. Mainly because it reminds me of an important chapter in my young adult life when I fell in love in the wrong time.
