Limor Matisis Barnea

Art Appreciation

Former ballet instructor, Limor Matisis Barnea is recognized for her realistic paintings of landscapes and models.

I came across one of Limor's intimate painting of a lady laying naked on her bed looking at her reflection from a mirror.

You can see more of her work at her website HERE.

Lyudmila Agrich

Art Appreciation

Since I was young, I have been fascinated by impressionist such as Henri Matisse, Claude Monet and Edgar Degas. So it shouldn't be a surprise that I can find appreciation in Lyudmila Agrich's work.

Her Monet ala Degas-esque oil painting of a ballerina caught my attention when flipping through The Essential Guide magazine. The viewer is placed in the recital hall with the young ballerina as she stretches her legs before performing.

As I researched the painter and her work, I found a beautiful painting of sunflowers and a sensual painting of a naked woman in front of her vanity.

Lee Price

Art Appreciation

Lee Price is an American figurative artist who paints top view nude self-portraits of herself with "forbidden" foods like ice cream and cupcakes in intimate and private settings.

I came across Lemon Meringue, while thumbing through The Essential Guide, a fine arts guide. The realistic oil painting showed a nude woman enjoying a lemon meringue while bathing. Needlesstosay, this intrigued me to know more about Lee Price.

A 2011 interview of the artist provided me an insightful look at Lee Price. You can read the interview HERE, and view more of her wonderful work HERE.

Maná - Perdido en un barco

Music Appreciation

I grew up listening to alternative music on KFRQ. It wasn't until college when I was introduced to latin rock. The first time I heard Maná was during a weekend trip with my college friends at South Padre Island.

I quickly became a fan of the band from Guadalajara, Mexico.

Tom Wesselmann

Art Appreciation

American artist Tom Wesselmann is considered by many as a pioneer of Pop Art; although, Wesselmann disliked being included in the movement. Arguably, he felt the label undervalued his creativity.

Wesselmann was born in Cincinnati on February 23, 1931. He attended Cooper Union, a privately funded college known to produce distinguished artists. After graduation, in 1961, he began a series called Great American Nude, a collection of art depicting images of historical figures and landscapes with a patriotic theme.

Later works included experimenting with negative space, the space between objects, between a woman's limbs and breast.

You can read more about his work HERE.

Jorge Santos

I enjoy looking at artist's creations. I especially enjoy those paintings that look lifelike yet hold that imaginative feeling.

The surreal images portrayed in Jorge Santos paintings are intriguing, such as one that I stumbled upon while thumbing through the essential guide called Book Worm. This Daliesque painting is of a young girl walking on a lonely muddy road in inclement weather confronted with what appears to be a small spider hanging from a Sycamore.

When I googled his name, I came across many other disturbing yet beautiful paintings such one of a beautiful woman laying between metal wheels called Hobo or the dreamlike painting of the Chrysler Building laying over a canyon.

You can see more of Jorge Santos creative works HERE.
