Anya Olsen

Acting Appreciation

I have a thing for Anya Olsen. Yes, the 5'4" gorgeous vixen who appears in adult-themed films. So, naturally, I felt it fitting to celebrate her birthday, today.

Anya was born on September 27, 1994 in Oneonta, New York; however, she and her four siblings grew up in Kansas. When she was thirteen, her family moved back to upstate New York.

For me, its her auburn hair and crystal blue eyes that automatically attracts me. It's probably also her super cool and perky personality as expressed in porn stallion Manuel Ferrara's vlog cast

She has worked with studios  like Girlfriends Films, Digital Sin, Mofos, Evil Angel, X-Art, Reality Kings, Wicked Pictures, Tushy, Brazzers, and Twistys.

Anya has been nominated at the AVN and XBIZ Awards, and a winner of the Spank Bank Award for Most Luscious Labia in 2017 and 2018. She does have a nice labia. Google it.

Alicia Rickter

Acting Appreciation

I recall being excited receiving the October 1995 edition of Playboy because it featured "The Women of the Ivy League." This was a big deal because as a college kid I was interested in what our nation's flagship institutions were offering in terms of girls. But that issue offered a lot more than cute college girls. It featured Elizabeth Berkley topless, a insightful interview with a 24 year old Snoop Dogg, and the gorgeous Alicia Rickter.

Her centerfold titled "Earth Shaker" called her the "postmodern Playmate." "She paints. She reads philosophy. She ponders the meaning of life, the meaning of sex, even the sociopolitical of appearing in PLAYBOY," the article read.

Although she is celebrated as the 500th Playmate, it was later found that one early Playmate appeared twice under different names (Marilyn Waltz and Margaret Scott).

The American model and actress was born on September 21, 1972. After appearing in Playboy, Alicia appeared in TV and film. One such TV series was the sexy drama television series, Baywatch. In 2002, she had a role in the romantic comedy film, Buying the Cow.

In 2005, Alicia married baseball catcher Mike Piazza at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Miami.

Ksenia Milicevic

Art Appreciation

Born on September 15, 1942 in Drinici, Bosnia and Herzegovina, French painter Ksenia Milicevic is best known for creating the Art Resilience movement, which seeks to redefine the notion of art.

Milicevic comes from an interesting family history -- both her parents were partisans engaged in guerrilla campaign during World War II.

At an early age, she came to appreciate architecture and art. She graduated from both the University of Engineering in Belgrade, and the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the Institute of Urbanism in Algiers.

In her spare time, Milicevic took a class from Algerian painter M'hamed Issiakhem, who was known for a painting style that was a blend of abstract expressionism and traditional portraiture.

Milicevic moved to San Miguel de Tucumán in northern Argentina to work as an architect. While there, she joined the art school of the National University. Her first exhibition took place at the National University's Gallery in 1970.

Before settling in France, Milicevic spent some time in Spain and Mexico. She opened a workshop at Bateau-Lavoir in Montmarte, and has been exclusively dedicated to painting. She has since held exhibitions throughout the world.

Charlotte Sohy

Music Appreciation

While driving into work one morning, I came across an NPR story of French cellist HĂ©loĂŻse Luzzati's project that started during the COVID-19 pandemic of uncovering compositions by female composers. This eventually led to a label, La BoĂ®te Ă  PĂ©pites (The Jewel Box), dedicated in showcasing female composers' works that has been historically ignored--4% of composers of classical music are women

For this story, NPR focuses on the label's first release of French composer Charlotte Sohy set for September 30th in the UK. Luzzati explains that Sohy's composition is "impressionistic, sometimes figurative, with colors of Ravel, Chausson, and Debussy."

Luzzati decided to launch the label with works of Sohy after meeting Sohy's grandson, François-Henri Labey, who had copies of his grandmother's handwritten work.

When asked why female composers have been ignored, Luzzati explains with an example of female Virtuoso pianist Louise Farrenc who's work was forgotten after her death, "It's as simple as that. When a composer dies and she's no longer there to keep her work alive, it disappears almost instantly."

Lorenzo Pasinelli

Art Appreciation

Born on September 4, 1629 in Bologna, Lorenzo Pasinelli was an Italian painter trained in the studio of Simone Cantarini. Despite the training of Bolognese classicism, Pasinelli's works embraced more of Late Renaissance style where over exaggerated harmonious qualities results in asymmetrical elegance.

Daryl Hall & John Oates - Whole Oats

Music Appreciation

In September 1972, Daryl Hall and John Oates released their debut studio album, Whole Oates.

Prior to becoming a pop rock duo, Hall And Oates met at a band competition in Philadelphia in 1967. Discovering they had similar music interest, they began to collaborate. A few years later, they signed with Atlantic Records.

On May 28, 2015, British band Kitty, Daisy and Lewis performed with Daryl Hall I'm Sorry, the first song in the Whole Oates album, in an episode of Live from Daryl's House.
