Gabriel Mark Lipper

Art Appreciation

As mentioned in previous entries, I follow certain art blogs such as Art Odyssey and Impressioni Artistiche. Many times, I find myself admiring an art style or a painting, which then inspires me to learn more about the artist.

For example, I came across a painting of a strong attractive brunette with long curly hair resting her arm on a table in front of the Flemish painting titled Gabrielle d'Estrées et une de ses soeurs.

The painting is by an American artist named Gabriel Mark Lipper. Resorting to a classical painting technique, Lipper is recognized for his oil portraitures and paintings of human figures in everyday lives.

You can see more of his paintings HERE.

Matthew W. Cornell

Art Appreciation

Contemporary American artist, Matthew W. Cornell is known for his photorealistic paintings of landscapes and streetscapes.

I came across his paintings through Art Odyssey, a blog that recognizes artists and their work.

What captured my attention of his paintings was how the viewer can easily interact wit the piece. Perhaps is because the artist removes humans from the painting and allows the viewer to be more intimate with the scenery.

You can see more of his work HERE.

Henri Cartier-Bresson

Photography Appreciation

Born on August 22, 1908 in Chanteloup-en-Brie, east of Paris, French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson is known for his photojournalism and street photography.

Perhaps of his many photographs, my personal favorites are those he captured to tell a story. For example, in 1948, before Communism took over China, he captured the anxiety of people trying to get gold from the banks. Another of his photos caught the love between mother and son after the son returned from war.

You can learn more about him HERE.
