Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No. 3 in E♭ major, Opus 55

Music Appreciation

Ludwig van Beethoven is one of my favorite 19th Century composers, and perhaps one of my favorite composition is his Symphony No. 3.

The symphony was completed in early 1804 and first performed on April 7, 1805 at the Theater an der Wein in Vienna. By this time, Beethoven was starting to show symptoms of deafness.

German Conductor Christian Thielemann and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performed the complete symphony at the Musikverein in 2010.

Moscow on the Hudson

Film Appreciation

I remember watching this movie on HBO, when I was little. It was a big deal back then to have HBO, especially for us who lived in the Rio Grande Valley, 4 hours south of San Antonio, Texas.

Moscow on the Hudson, relased on April 6, 1984, was a American romantic comedy-drama film. It was written and directed by Paul Mazursky, who was known for dramatic comedies that dealt with modern social issues. The film starred the late and great Robin Williams, and Maria Conchita Alonso.

The story is of a man who defects while on a circus tour from the Soviet Union. It's a film worth watching, and can very easily be applied to today's social and political environment.
