Henri Julien
Art Appreciation
Born on May 14, 1852, French Canadian artist and illustrator Henri Julien was considered a versatile visual artist who was known for his impressive recollection of scenes he had seen days earlier.
He began his career as an engraver and lithographer with Georges-Édouard Desbarats, an influential Canadian printer. He then became artist and cartoonist for Canadian Illustrated News and Montreal Daily Star using pseudonyms like Ocavo and Crincrin. Later in his career, he exhibited his works through the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
