George Walker
Music Appreciation
African-American composer George Walker was born on June 27, 1922 in Washington, D.C. At age 14, Walker held his first public recital. That same year, he was admitted to Oberlin Conservatory in Oberlin, Ohio.
Walker became the first black instrumentalist to present a debut recital in Manhattan's Town Hall, a historical landmark venue known to host countless cultural and musical milestones. He has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Baltimore Symphony.
In 1956, Walker became the first black to receive a doctoral degree from the Eastman School of Music.
He is the first Black to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his work Lilacs in 1996.

Spaceballs (1987)
Film Appreciation
Spaceballs was released in movie theaters on June 26, 1987. Directed by Mel Brooks, the film is a parody to numerous sci-fi films such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, and Planet of the Apes.
Starring Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, Dick Van Patten, and Joan Rivers, the film became a cult classic and is considered one of Brooks' most popular films.

Sister Hazel - All For You

American alternative rock band Sister Hazel was formed in Gainesville, Florida in 1993. The band, which was named after a local missionary who ran a homeless shelter, is known for their hit song "All of You." The song peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Haddon Sundblom
Art Appreciation
American artist Haddon Sundblom was born on June 22, 1899. He is best known for the images of Santa Claus he created for The Coca-Cola Company.
Sundblom, who was born in Muskegon, Michigan, moved to Chicago, and studied at the American Academy of Art. In his early twenties, he decided on a career in illustration and partnered with friends to launch an advertising agency.
In the 1930s, he worked the The Coca-Cola Company's Santa Claus advertisements. He is credited for creating the modern image of Santa Claus.
Aside from being credited for creating the modern image of Santa Claus, Sunblom is also recognized for his many pin-ups and glamour pieces. In 1972, his last assignment was the Playboy's Christmas issue cover.
Sundblom past away on March 10, 1976.
