Alan Menken

Music Appreciation

Born on July 22, 1949, Alan Menken is an American musical theatre and film score composer best known for his numerous scores for Walt Disney Animation Studios films.

In the early 1980s, Menken collaborated with playwright Howard Ashman to write the musical, Little Shop of Horrors. Ashman and Menken were then hired by Walt Disney Studios to write the music for The Little Mermaid, then Beauty and the Beast.

Merken has received multiple Golden Globes and Academy Awards for his many iconic scores and songs over the past 30 years.
