Found this time lapse of The Undertaker while looking for a color recipe! This 3 x 5.5' woodcut has over 30 pieces of hand dyed chine collé. About to start bulk-dying my paper in anticipation of printing these next two big ones- The Mother and The Undertaker, life and death in the series The Villagers Carrying Things From Home ✨ Chine collé is a technique of selectively adding color to a print by collaging different pieces of paper to a print while it's run through a press. My dyed papers are carefully laid upon the inked woodcut, taken to the press where a full sheet of damp paper is laid over the top, and cranked through the press, gluing all the papers together while the ink from the woodcut is transferred to the paper. It's a complicated and delicate process that takes a team to execute successfully at this scale. #woodcut #printmaking #handcarved #handdyed #dyedpaper #chinecolle #printshop #megaprintmakers #wip #flatbedpress #annalisegratovich
