Actor Appreciation
I remember him as the ex-hippie dad to Michael J. Fox' character, Alex P. Keaton, in the 1980s TV sitcom Family Ties.
The actor, Michael Gross, was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 21, 1947. He started as a theater actor before landing a part in the TV movie A Girl Named Sooner in 1975.
In 1982, Gross was cast to play Steven Keaton in the sitcom Family Ties. The series was originally written to focus on the liberal suburban parents, but audiences reacted positively towards Michael J. Fox, who played the conservative son.
After Family Ties, Gross starred as Burt Gummer in the Tremors movies and TV series. He's also played several TV and movie roles since.
One cool fact is that Gross is a railfan. He collects railroad antiques and model railways.
