Art Appreciation
Born on December 29, 1963, David "Dave" McKean is an English illustrator, photographer, comic book artist, graphic designer, filmmaker, and musician.
His first graphic novels included Violent Cases (1987), Black Orchid (1988), and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth (1989). In 1995, McKean wrote and illustrated a book for The Rolling Stones called Voodoo Lounge in conjunction with the release of the Stones' 20th British studio album. He wrote and illustrated the graphic novel, Cages, between 1990 and 1996.
Other comics and graphic novels include Pictures That Tick, Pictures That Tick 2, Celluloid, and Black Dog: The Dreams of Paul Nash. He has designed album covers for Tori Amos and Toad the Wet Sprocket, to name a few, and has published four books of photography. He also designed and directed the awesome film, MirrorMask.
