Janet Jackson - Escapade

Music Appreciation

Janet Jackson's Escapade song reminds me of a girl who lived in my neighborhood when I was a kid. Her name was Caroline and she resembled a teen version of Janet Jackson. Of course, at the time many girls poofed their hair and some even dressed in black. Oh... but Caroline was a special girl. She played stick ball and football with us boys.

Escapade was released on January 8, 1990. The music video for this upbeat pop song took place at an exotic carnival setting and the dancers dressed in various exotic pirate costumes.

Johnny Palacios Hidalgo

Art Appreciation

I came across a painting of a elder woman with hair of grapevine holding grapes in one hand and a lamp on the other. Levitating behind the woman is a child on box looking towards the grape leaves and box full of toys. The painting is by Johnny Palacios Hidalgo, a Peruvian artist known for his surreal hyperrealistic paintings of women and animal figures.

You can view more of his paintings HERE.

Imagine

Music Appreciation

Considered the best-selling single of John Lennon's solo career, Imagine was released on October 11, 1971 during the height of the Vietnam War. The song encouraged listeners to imagine a world at peace, "Imagine there's no countries, It isn't hard to do, Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too, Imagine all the people, Living life in peace..."

A year later, on December 23, 1972, Lennon and Ono released a documentary rock film that featured songs from the Imagine album along with footage of the couple's home, the recording studio in London, and New York City.
