American Gigolo

Film Appreciation

I'll be honest and admit that I didn't see American Gigolo until I was in my late 20s. It was during a time when I was watching Richard Gere movies: An Officer and a Gentleman, The Cotton Club, Pretty Woman, Primal Fear, The Mothman Prophecies, and Chicago.

American Gigolo is an iconic crime drama film, written and directed by Paul Schrader, starring Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton. Gere plays a male escort who becomes a prime suspect in the murder of his client's wife.

Thomas Saliot

Art Appreciation

For some reason I'm drawn to paintings or photographs of women who cover their mouths with their turtleneck sweater, shirt, or blanket to only reveal their eyes and hair. To me, it's sensual, such as the painting titled "Black Jumper" by French artist Thomas Saliot.

Saliot is known for taking images from the internet and painting it free hand. You can find more of his wonderful artwork HERE.

Jonathan Root

Photography Appreciation

Jonathan Root is an English portrait photographer, and is considered a master in the art of portraiture. A couple of his famous portraits includes that of French designer Philippe Patrick Starck and photographer David Hockney. One that captured my attention was a black and white portrait titled "Twins" of two thin boys in jeans with their hair combed down.

You can find more of his portraits HERE.
