Frédéric Chopin - Prelude No 4 in E minor, Op 28

Music Appreciation

I'm a big fan of Polish composer and pianist Frédéric Chopin. Born on March 1, 1810 in east central Poland, near Warsaw, Chopin was a child prodigy who left his country and settled in Paris at the age of 21. He suffered from poor health and is thought to have died of tuberculosis in 1849.

The Wallflowers - One Headlight

Music Appreciation

I remember selecting The Wallflowers' Bringing Down the Horse from the Columbia House CD catalog. When the CD came in, I plopped it in my portable CD player and cranked up the volume to One Headlight.

The song, One Headlight, which was written by lead singer Jakob Dylan and produced by T-Bone Burnett, was released on February 24, 1997. The song won two Grammy awards for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Rock Song in 1998. The song also was listed at No. 58 in Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Pop Songs.

The music video, which was directed by Joe Perota, features Jakob Dylan and the band members performing in what appears to be a old warehouse.

4 Non Blondes - What's Up

Music Appreciation

Remember the time of flannel and Doc Martens or when wearing combat boots and motorcycle goggles wrapped around a Mad Hatter top hat was cool?

It was the height of the grunge era, when California rock band 4 Non Blondes' What's Up hit the charts in 1993 and reached No. 14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The song would become the band's only hit, after the group disbanded. Lead singer Linda Perry pursued a solo career and was later inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2015.

The music video, which was directed by Morgan Lawley, features the band members (Christa Hillhouse, Roger Rocha, Dawn Richardson, and Linda Perry) performing in a living-room setting with snippets of the them in the playground, streets, and performing.
