North Sea Hijack

Film Appreciation

Released in the U.S. on April 18, 1980, the British action film, North Sea Hijack (a.k.a. Ffolkes and Assault Force), starred Roger Moore, Anthony Perkins, Michael Parks and James Mason.

Adapted from Jack Davies' novel Esther, Ruth and Jennifer, the film was directed by Andrew V. McLaglen. The film brought in less than $3 million in the U.S. box office, yet it does have a cult following.

Mike DeBalfo

Art Appreciation

His voluptuous drawings of Supergirl and Wonder Woman easily caught my attention.

Inspired by comic book artists and illustrators such as Eric Basaldua, J. Scott Campbell, Adam Hughes, Armando Huerta, and Frank Frazetta, Mike DeBalfo entered the comics industry as a cover artist.

You'd probably recognize his artwork in Wonderland, Grimm Fairy Tales, and Zombies vs. Cheerleaders.

You can read a great interview about Mike DeBalfo HERE and see his work HERE.

David Hamilton

Photography Appreciation

Born on April 15, 1933, David Hamilton was a British photographer best known for the dreamy, gentleness, and grainy style of photography of young women.

Before becoming a photographer, Hamilton was a graphic designer for Elle magazine, an art director for Queen magazine, and an art director for the French department store, Printemps.

In an interview, regarding his photography, he explains his work as "Nudity and purity, sensuality and innocence, grace and spontaneity – we made contradictions of them. I try to harmonize them, and that’s my secret, and the reason for my success." Yet, similar to Sally Mann, a lot of his images stirred controversy.

In October 2016, Flavie Flament, a former model for Hamilton, alleged sexual assault by the photographer when she was 13 years old. A few weeks later, three other former models claimed to have been raped by Hamilton.

On November 25, 2016, David Hamilton was found dead at his Paris apartment. Suicide was the determine cause of his death.
