Jaroslava Muchová

Artist Appreciation

Czech painter, Jaroslava Muchová Syllabová was born on March 15, 1909. She was the daughter of Bohemian and Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, and a contributor to several of his artwork as a model and as a restorer. 

Jaroslava was instrumental in restoring her father's The Slav Epic, a cycle of 20 large canvases, which were hidden from Nazis.

Fun fact, her father pictured her on Czechoslovak currency.

Qayyum Chowdhury

Art Appreciation

Born on March 9, 1932, Qayyum Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi painter, book designer, and illustrator, known to incorporate Bangladesh and its people in his work.

At a young age, Chowdhury was lecturer at Dahaka Art College in Arambagh before joining artist Quamrul Hassan's Design Center then the Pakistan Observer where he was the chief artist.

In 1965, he returned to teaching at the Dhaka Art College where he stayed until 2002. 

Throughout his lifetime, Chowdhury received many accolades and awards, such as the Ekushey Padak, second highest Bangladesh award, and the Independence Day Award, the highest state award.

Fun fact: Chowdhury helped design currency notes.
