Born April 18, 1976, in Smithtown, New York, Melissa Joan Hart began acting at an early age, appearing in commercials before transitioning into television. Raised in a large family with ties to the entertainment industry, she quickly developed a professional presence in front of the camera.

By the late 1980s, she was landing guest roles and television movies, building a résumé that positioned her for leading parts. Her early work demonstrated a natural comedic timing that would define much of her career.

Hart’s breakthrough came with the Nickelodeon series Clarissa Explains It All (1991–1994), where she played the witty, fourth-wall-breaking teenager Clarissa Darling. The show became a cultural touchstone for young audiences in the 1990s.

She soon secured the title role in the 1996 television film Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which led to the long-running ABC series Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996–2003). As Sabrina Spellman, Hart blended humor and heart, anchoring a series that became a defining part of late-’90s teen television.

Following Sabrina, Hart expanded into film and additional television projects. She appeared in movies such as Drive Me Crazy and later starred in the ABC Family sitcom Melissa & Joey (2010–2015), opposite Joey Lawrence. She also took on directing and producing roles, broadening her industry footprint. In recent years, Hart has become a familiar face in holiday-themed television films, particularly through family-oriented programming.

Beyond acting, Hart supports several philanthropic efforts, notably through her work with Youth Villages, a nonprofit dedicated to helping children and families facing emotional and behavioral challenges. She has served as a national spokesperson, raising awareness and funds for youth services and foster care initiatives.
