Art Appreciation
Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot was a French painter known for his landscapes.
Born on July 16, 1796 in Paris, the artist began oil painting around 1821 and soon after devoted himself to landscapes. He studied with Achille Etna Michallon, who had an influence on Corot's career.
Later in life, Claude Monet referred Corot as the the master, "We are nothing compared to him, nothing." Corot died February 22, 1875.
